Viewfinders come in handy when scoping out prospective subjects for drawing and paintings. Use a viewfinder to look at people, objects and landscapes from various angles and viewpoints. Make a simple and inexpensive viewfinder out of paper and paper clips. Plan to spend less than 30 minutes to complete this project.
Instructions
1. Use a ruler and the black paper to measure two 90-degree angles that have six-inch rays on both sides. Make the rays approximately one inch wide. Make the angles larger or smaller depending on your preference.
2. Cut the angles out with a utility knife. Lay the angles on a craft mat and cut them out by lining a straight edge up with the angle edges and running the utility knife along the edge. Use scissors if you do not have a utility knife.
3. Set the angles on your work surface. Place one piece so that the 90-degree angle is pointing to the bottom right corner, the other angle pointing to the upper left corner, to form a square.
4. Secure the pieces together with paper clips. Put one paper clip on the upper right corner, and one on the lower left corner.
5. Slide one piece of the viewfinder's frame in and out to adjust the size of the viewfinder. Hold the viewfinder up in front of you, and frame the object you desire to draw. Adjust the viewfinder as necessary.
6. Use card stock or matte board for a more sturdy viewfinder.
