Hunting season is just around the corner. Your composite gun stock may need a new coat of paint, or you may need to refresh that old camouflage design. Doing this job yourself can save you money and guarantee that the job is done exactly the way you want. In less than an afternoon, you can have your old gun stock looking brand new.
Instructions
1. Remove barrel from gun stock and any other pieces that you do not want to get paint on. A full breakdown is best so you can paint the individual pieces.
2. Clean all pieces to be painted using a rag and acetone. Quickly wipe down all surfaces and allow to dry. You may have to use paint thinner or mineral spirits for the really tough grime or heavy buildup of old paint.
3. Rough the entire gun stock with the 00 steel wool. The surface needs minor abrasions for the paint to stick. Be careful not to make deep scratches; just scuff the surface. Wipe down the entire surface again with a clean rag and acetone. Allow to dry.
4. Apply the paint in thin, even coats, and allow the paint to tack or just be sticky between the coats. Spray only enough for an even coating. Examine the surface for any spray flaws. You can remove them with the OO steel wool and reapply the paint.
5. Reassemble the gun once the paint is dry.
