Highlighters contain a similar type of fluorescent ink that glows.
Fluorescent acrylic paint is intensely hued, brilliantly colored paint that has a glowing appearance. The dye, or pigment, in the paint absorbs invisible ultraviolet light and emits visible light resulting in a relfective paint You can buy such paints at art supply stores or mix them at home. Fluorescent acrylics are used in art projects and sign-making but the glowing properties are not long-lasting, so this kind of paint is not appropriate for work that is meant to be permanent.
Instructions
1. Visit art supply websites to view the available fluorescent acrylic paints. Paints come in jars, bottles and tubes and in varying viscosities (thickness and resistance to flow). You can purchase paint this way or mix your own.
2. Combine a clear acrylic medium (available at art and craft supply stores) with fluorescent pigment, sometimes called "glow powder" to make your own fluorescent acrylic paint. The mixing ratio is 10 parts medium to one part pigment.
3. Mix a small amount of fluorescent paint before making large quantities so that you can be sure you like the result. Modify the ratio as necessary per pigment instructions and your artistic needs.
