Bold paint colors make the farm characters stand out from the background.
Painting a farm scene in a kid's bedroom makes the room come alive with a landscape. You can paint the scene by creating a sky as a background and clouds and hills to create depth. You can affix stencils to the background once it's dry to add details such as farm animals, a barn, fence, trees, corn stalks, a tractor and a pond. Purchase a farm scene stencil kit or choose stencils individually at a craft store or on an Internet site.
Instructions
1. Remove all of the furniture from the room or move the furniture into an area of the room that you are not painting. Affix painter's tape along the top of the bedroom's baseboards or crown molding and around the exterior of the door and window molding to prevent paint from splattering and touching places other than the wall. Cover areas that you do not wish to paint such as heaters and floors with drop cloths. Tape the drop cloths down to the surface.
2. Pour the light blue latex paint into the paint pan. Place your roll brush into the pan so that it is submerged in the light blue paint on all sides. Roll your brush onto the textured part of the pan to remove excess paint. Climb your ladder with your roll brush in hand. Paint your first coat of light blue paint on the ceiling and walls. Allow at least 4 hours for the first coat. Apply a second coat. Allow at least 4 hours for the second coat to dry.
3. Start drawing the outline of hills with a pencil approximately one-quarter to one-half of the way up the wall. Continue drawing hills so that there are peaks and valleys of various heights on all walls. This creates depth so that the farm animal scene appears 3-D.
4. Pour your light green latex paint into a clean paint pan. Dip a narrow-tip paint brush with firmly packed bristles into your light green paint. Trace over the pencil used to makes the hills with light green paint. Use a wider paint brush or clean roll brush to fill in the hills with the light green paint. Allow the paint to dry for at least 4 hours before applying a second coat. Allow the second coat to dry for at least 4 hours.
5. Peel self-adhesive stencils from their backing. Stick barn, farm animal, grass, flowers, tractor and fence stencils on top of the green hills and valleys you created on your wall. Stick cloud, bee and bird stencils on your ceiling and on the sky part of your wall. Add a sun stencil to one corner of your wall. Paint the indicated areas of your stencils using your primary color acrylic paint kit and a firm-bristle stencil paint brush. Reuse the stencils to add duplicate designs throughout the room. Use a different paint brush for each paint color to ensure that paint colors do not mix. Allow the paint to dry for 4 hours.
